“I used to run a Driving School, so my background isn't Plant Hire at all. However, when I was looking for a career change, A-Plant Traffic Management stood out as somewhere my skills and road knowledge would be valuable.
That's really proved to be the case. In my role, I work really closely with clients to ensure that Traffic Management is set up correctly around construction sites and road works. This means being out on site a lot of the time, setting up traffic lights, planning road closures and solving issues. The work can be quite physical too.
I've had lots of training. Whether it is courses on Manual Handling, Health and Safety, or three and four-way traffic light systems, the training is continuous and there is plenty to learn. As you develop your knowledge, you begin to realise what an in-depth and complex area Traffic is - it offers so much potential for career development.”

“I've been an HGV Driver for years and the first point I'd make about A-Plant is that they really take care of your welfare. There's no pressure to work weekends or to change your hours at short notice, like I've found in other jobs. Delivery schedules are always well structured and you get all the training you need to feel comfortable in your role.
Since I've been here, I've gained licences in Lorry Loading and in delivering dangerous substances like petrol, diesel and gas. I've been fully trained on all safety procedures and equipment, such as harnesses, winches and cranes - so loading, lifting and unloading never add any stress to the delivery. All I have to worry about is getting to the right place, on time!
People often think that, because I'm delivering generators and construction kit, this is often dirty work. It's not. You'll be amazed at some of the places that we deliver to. I've been to Wembley, the Cutty Sark, the Olympics site in East London, Silverstone, the Henley Regatta, and the Horse of the Year Show. I once even delivered generators to a Fashion Show on Bond Street.
So it's a great company to work for and driving is a really varied, enjoyable role here. If you join as an Apprentice these days, driving has a clear career path. You progress steadily and gain qualifications for every size of vehicle - right up until you're driving the very latest A-Plant HGV."
