Hounslow High Street Quarter Redevelopment

The Hounslow Regeneration Project aims to transform Hounslow town centre into one of West London's most vibrant, exciting shopping and leisure centre developments.

Plans for the £100 million High Street Quarter redevelopment include 10,000m2 of shops and restaurants, an underground car park, a multiplex cinema and 400 new homes, 41% of which will be affordable. Based on a 5.3 acre site, it is the first major development in the borough’s centre for more than 20 years.

We were approached by Barroerock Construction Ltd to design and quote for formwork and falsework required to construct the mixed development of apartments and shops. The project was split into two halves, with Half 1 (H1) consisting of a nine storey and six storey block of buildings constructed on a 4.8m podium slab. Half 2 (H2) consisted of a further six storey building to be built adjoining an existing building.

The Challenge

The project was significantly more complex than the norm due to the construction taking place on a very busy high street with a close pedestrian boundary. What’s more, for H2 no cranes could be used so each component needed to be lifted by workers on-site.

The Solution

For H1 we designed a solution that used our MEP Falsework System for the 4.8m podium slab, plus Mammut Wall Panels for the lift cores and walls. Our Romford and Colnbrook locations also supplied Carofalt Column Boxes and the MevaDec Slab Formwork System.

The Results

The formwork and falsework aspect of this project was highly successful and the overall High Street Quarter development is due for successful completion in 2018. The development forms the cornerstone of Hounslow Council’s regeneration strategy and will also act as a catalyst to bring further growth and prosperity to the town and the borough.
