In conversation with Colin Lockless
What is your name and what job roles have you had at Leada Acrow?
I’m Colin Lockless. I started work in the yard - repairing and straightening trench sheets and looking after associated groundworks products. After three or four years in the yard, I took up a manager’s role to look after, what was at the time, our Greenwich London depot. From there, I progressed to running the Milton Keynes depot.
After approximately five years, I came back to Colnbrook as an assistant service manager. I later became the manager for Colnbrook depot, when Leada Acrow was bought by A-Plant. I am still the manager of Colnbrook but also the operations manager for the south, which means I also oversee Tavistock, Norwich, Romford and Cardiff.
How long have you been at Leada Acrow?
30 years, my first day at Leada Acrow was 2nd March, 1987.
What’s the most memorable project you worked on?
Project Name: Newbury Bypass
Overview: We supplied Co-Planar, Super A beam and soldiers to complete many bridge structures in the build of the Newbury bypass. We were also the supplier of the scaffolders to erect and dismantle our equipment, which was a first for Leada Acrow.
What’s your favourite memory about Leada Acrow?
Being awarded profit centre of the year for the whole of A-Plant in 2008.
What’s your advice to Leada Acrow for the next 80 years?
Continue to work as a strong team and adapt to the changes in the market.
